Making your own layout

To make a layout in Dextrous, you can click Make a new layout > blank, on the Layouts page.
This will take you to the layout editor where you can set up the visual template for your card.

Tutorial

Watch this tutorial to learn the basics of the layout editor and create your own custom layout template. Use these steps as a guide:
Get a visual reference. Work from a sketch or grab some reference images from Google.
Create a blank layout and choose layout size (this is the type of component you want to make ie poker card, tarot card, tile, token and so forth)
Add text and image zones to your card
  • - Design things like font size, border width, background color etc. are on the left side.
  • - You can move text and image zones into position on the card_background zone. Use ctrl+arrow key to move by pixel.
Name your zones in the panel on the right (they will match the table columns in the component editor in steps 6-8).
Save your layout (don't worry if it's not perfect, you can always come back and change it later!)
Add your layout to a component in a project by going to a new or existing project and add a new component with an existing layout.
Duplicate cards in the component editor (CTRL+D)
Fill out the card data (write in the titles, descriptions etc.) for each card using the table.
Export your cards to PDF and playtest! We recommend printing straight onto A4 200gsm cardstock and just cutting the cards straight out. The important thing is to get your idea to the table as quickly as possible and test the core gameplay loop – is there a spark there? And, what could you do next to fan that spark into a flame of fun?
