Drag and drop images from your desktop straight into an open folder to upload them.
Add a caption...
Tip: Use only 1 folder per project - don't use subfolders.
Auto-optimised - (the green ticks )
The green ticks on images in a folder show they have been auto-optimised behind the scenes. This means that we have made our own versions of these images at different resolutions - the advantage here is that we can show you appropriately sized images whenever your using the component editor to edit your cards etc. - basically it means the app can be way faster.
Important: whenever you export to pdf we use your original images not our optimised ones. This means it's still a good idea to optimise your images before you upload them to Dextrous if you don't want gigantic PDF sizes etc.
Deleting images
You can delete images by clicking on them and then clicking the delete icon.
Deleting folders
Currently you need to go to the image library to delete folders (select a folder > delete icon.).
Can I use image Urls?
Unfortunately no. We need to host the images ourselves so we can optimise them for faster performance. Also some of our exports don't work with externally hosted images.
What size should my images be?
So here are some things to keep in mind:
You want your images to be big enough so they'll be good for printing at 300dpi, but you don't want them too big as this will slow down your project significantly, and bloat PDF sizes etc.
A 300dpi image at full poker card size should be 750x1050 - that's for an image that is the full size of the card (without bleed). . With 3mm of bleed a full size image would be 821px x 1121px. So that's the maximum pixels any image for a poker card should be if you're optimising for 300dpi print. This full-size image as a png should be about 700kb,
If your full-size Poker card images are over 1MB you know something is off and you should resize these images. If the image is a jpg or webp it should be roughly half that size (so 400kb).
An icon on your card on the other hand, should be more in the realm of 96x96px (of course it depends on the size of the icon, but just as a ballpark figure). A png icon should be much much smaller than 700KB, (think roughly 70kb as a guide).,
We recommend converting pngs to webp at 90% quality as the quality is still great but your images will be much smaller which means the app will be faster AND you'll save storage space. We recommend Photoshop, Gimp or freeconvert.com for this
Don't use cloudconvert.com to convert your images - it adds weird metadata to your images that can produce coloration artifacts on export.
How can I make my SVG images be stretchy?
If you want your own SVG images to stretch with image zones (instead of keeping their aspect ratio (this is default svg behaviour on the web) you need to modify the svg file itself.
On your desktop, open your SVG image in a text editor like Notepad:
Add a caption...
Add preserveAspectRatio="none" into the code just before the first > symbol, like this:
Add a caption...
Save the svg file in your text editor (ctrl+s).
Upload that SVG file to Dextrous, then it will be properly stretchy!
